The levada of Furado, starting at the Ribeiro Frio Forest Park (870 m) is one of the oldest in Madeira Island and is moderately difficult. Along the 11 km that take us to the Miradouro da Portela (600 m), we cross tunnels dug out of the rocks, pass through waterfalls and valleys, and discover many species of indigenous flora and birds characteristic of the Laurissilva forest.
Along the way, the landscape alternates between the dense forest valleys and the villages of Faial and Porto da Cruz in the north of the island. At the end of this walk, there is still time to enjoy the splendid view over the rock formation of Penha d'Águia.
